Introduction to Ms Debby Regiani
Hello. My name is Debby Regiani and I am one of the resource room teachers at Willow Hill. This is my fortith year of teaching.I taught downstate in Dryden Community and Waterford Schools and have been in Traverse City for 33 years.I taught third grade at Westwoods for four years and the remainder has been in special education.I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Teaching the Mentally Impaired and earned a Masters of Teaching from Oakland University in Learning Disabilities.I continue to update my skills in education including training in autism spectrum disorders, Read Naturally, Ortin-Gillingham, Early Interventions in Reading (EIR), Michigan Literacy Progress Profile (MLPP), Do The Math, Handwriting Without Tears, Positive Behavior Interventions, Math Investigations, Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), Brain Gym, Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) and Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop.I love teaching and have enjoyed sharing my experiences with many student teachers and mentoring new teachers within the TCAPS system.I have also coached volleyball, track and basketball at the high school, junior high and elementary levels.
I love teaching and the best part for me is the interaction with the students. They are little sponges. As an advocate for kids, I will make sure their needs are met.I want to help students achieve goals and develop positive self-esteem.I also want students to accept who they are, like themselves and know that they can accomplish any goal they work hard at achieving.Together we can help your child be successful at Willow Hill.
I have lived in Traverse City since 1981.Born in Detroit, I spent my growing up years in Waterford, the oldest of five kids in an Italian family. My husband Tom VanSipe is a service techncian for Taylor Freezer of MI.Our two children attend West High School.Benjamin is an 12th grader and Sarah is an 11th grader. Both attended Willow Hill through their elementary years. We have a wonderful dog, a yorkie/bichon named Magglio, who just celebrated his sixth birthday.
I love spending time with my family.I am all about people. We love camping, biking, fishing, and water sports in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter.I am an avid sailor and hold a Coast Guard Captain's License.I love gardening, both flowers and vegetables.I also love taking pictures and attending sporting events. Our children are soccer players and we spend much time at the TBAYS fields.I have taken up walking and my claim to fame is that I walked sixty miles in three days a few summers ago, raising money and awareness for the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure.It was an emotional and physically challenging experience as a cancer survivor. My teaching extends into the evening where I work with teens at a non-denominational bible study on Monday evenings and my family and I are parishioners at St. Francis Catholic Church.
I look forward to working with your son or daughter.I know many of them already, and look forward to working with them on a daily basis. Some of our work together will be in my classroom with remediation and some will be in the general education classroom in an inclusion setting.I will be getting in touch with you about your child's individualized educational plan meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.Please stop in and say hello and introduce yourself if you are new to Willow Hill. You can find me in the main hallway across from the staff lounge. It will be an exciting school year!
